I’m thinking about clothing and style. One’s personal style, to be specific, and I want to fill you in on something (and then give you some advice if you’re so inclined to listen).
The clothes you wear and the style you aim for are far more important than you might think.
When it comes to style, having your own unique perspective is important. You want to portray a certain image when you dress, and whatever that image may be, you need to make sure you’re conveying it clearly. Want to get on your cozy boy steez with tailored sweats and a fire basic hoodie? Still love the street goth look? Rare Japanese garments your type of thing? Want to look like you just don’t give a fuck and rock ripped tees? Whatever it may be that you want to look like, it doesn’t come easy. You’ve got to cultivate your personal style.
“Cultivate your personal style? What the hell does that mean?” you might be wondering. Simple: your clothes should reflect the person that you are, or at least the person that you want to be. Find an aesthetic that works for you and build around it. Sure, it’s ok to be inspired by someone, no matter if that someone is Kanye West, Ronnie Fieg, or just some fresh dude you know from around that always has a fire outfit on, but build off of that. Don’t copy, but be inspired.
Whatever you do, be sure to not consume mindlessly. There are hundreds of brands and thousands of websites out there, and your choices are endless. Get what you want and what you feel represents you the best. Any fool can spend hundreds or thousands of dollars snapping up any Bape and Supreme they can get their hands on and then acting like they’re really out here. That doesn’t take any skill. What does take skill is taking a popular brand like Bape or Supreme and working it into your wardrobe so it fits with your aesthetic.
Find pieces that you love, and make them staples. Pick three items that you’re all about and try to work at least one of them into every fit. My three? A black Regining Champ hat, vintage gold chains that have been in my family for decades, and a black Kith bomber jacket. They go with anything, and portray the aesthetic I want for myself.
And last but not least, wear your clothes with confidence. Do you like your steez? If you do, than it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. As soon as you stop giving a shit about what others think of how you dress, your freshness level will go through the roof (trust me, I speak from experience). Also, if you’re throwing on a flashy fit, don’t be a wallflower. Yes, people are looking at you. They’re rocking with your steez. If you look good, then you’ll feel good and your confidence will be high. There’s really nothing like getting a fire fit off.
So get to work. Make sure your wardrobe represents you well. Don’t consume mindlessly. And always keep your steez on ten and your jawnz extra crispy. If you feel good and look good, there’s no stopping you.
