Here at KicksOneTwo, we love hats. Dad hats, camp caps, fitteds, snapbacks, we’ll rock them all. We’re the people you see at the barbershop who get the fresh cut and shamelessly throw the hat right back on immediately after it’s done. Yeah, that’s how hat-crazed we are.
A hat is an essential part of your wardrobe, and you’ll be able to throw on the right hat with any fit, so it’s important that you know what you need to get. As we consider ourselves experts on the subject, we thought we’d share our expertise with you…so here’s a few things you can do to ensure that you get the perfect hat.
Figure Out Your Head Shape
No two heads are the same, and it’s important to figure out what hat works with your head/face shape, just like buying glasses. Fitted hats usually have a large crown, so if you have a big forehead they might be your best bet, as you can pull them down over your head with more ease. Camp caps are great if your face is a little wider, as they’re a short and wide hat themselves. Try on a few different styles, and figure out what looks the best.
Find A Good Color
What does your wardrobe consist of? Are you more of a tonal black and white person, or do you prefer lots of colors? Whatever your preference is, be sure to get hats that work with your wardrobe. No matter how cool a certain lid may look, if it doesn’t mesh with your wardrobe, you won’t wear it, no matter how much you may think you like it (trust us, we’ve been there). Find a simple, versatile color, and you’ll get ten times the wear out of it.
Curve The Brim
It can be a slight curve (best for camp caps) or intense curve (better for dad hats), but no matter what you do, you’ve got to put at least a little bend in your hat. If your brim’s completely flat, it makes the crown of your hat look gigantic, which in turn makes your head look enormous. You don’t want to look like a kid who borrowed his dad’s way-too-big hat, do you?
It can be a pain to work a flat brim into a nice curve, but there are a few easy ways to do it. You can curve the brim and then stick it in a coffee mug or glass overnight, which will leave you with a nice curve the next day, or you can rubber band the brim around a can of food which will do the same. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and your perfect hat brim won’t be either. Good things come to those who wait.
Add Your Own Personal Touch
Make the hat yours. Got some dope pins or buttons? Stick them on the side. Cold with calligraphy? Draw a saying or design on the bottom of the brim. When you properly accessorize and add your own unique touches to your hat, it becomes even doper than before.
So there you have it. Go out and get a hat. Make sure it works with your wardrobe, curve the brim, and make it yours by adding on personal touches. You’ve now got a versatile new piece in your wardrobe, and you’ll be throwing it on damn near every day.
