Remember the good old days?

The days when you used to walk into the store on release day, buy your Jordans, take them out of the box, lace them up, and walk out of the store with them on your feet? We do too. We actually enjoyed those days so much that we’re here today telling you that you should bring back the old habit, and start rocking your kicks right after you cop them.

Nowadays, there’s too much emphasis placed on sitting on your kicks after you cop them. No matter if they’re super-limited or a readily available GR, people don’t seem to like to break their new purchases out until much later down the road. Quality control. It’s very important for any footwear or apparel company. You’ve got to make sure that the products you’re putting out adhere to your standards of quality and make your customers happy. The retail market is a fickle one, and customers will turn on a brand quickly if their quality control isn’t up to par.

When you’re a company the size of Nike, this can be very tough. If you make millions of pairs of shoes, there’s bound to be some that aren’t up to snuff. However, this seems to be an ongoing struggle for them, as they’ve had problems with more than a few shoes over the course of the last year. read more

Designer kicks. Although many sneakerheads possess a rudimentary knowledge of them and what they’re about, they can seem like a foreign concept. They’re expensive. Some of them are garish. They don’t look like what we’re used to if we’re into Jordans or Adidas.

Thankfully, designer sneakers don’t have to be a foreign concept. There are several simple, clean models that you can work into your rotation without overexerting yourself. Everyone’s got a pair of grail sneakers. For some, it might be something that’s crazy limited, like these Eminem x Carhartt Jordan IV’s pictured above. For some, it might be a rare shoe from their childhood that they missed out on. For some it might be a sample or PE that wasn’t ever released. Sneakerheads love making up nicknames. If they’re passionate about something, they’ll nickname it a million different ways, and think of even more ways to say it. This is one of the great things about the sneaker game: the slang. It’s unique, and you won’t find anything like it anywhere else.

On Friday, we had our first shameless Instagram plug of the year and today we’re hitting you with the first edition of Sunday Sneaker Ramblings you’ll see in 2016. If you’re not familiar with the segment, here’s a quick rundown: I share my unfiltered thoughts on any and everything that I found interesting that went on in the sneaker world this last week. We’ve gotta start off with the biggest sneaker news of the week, the official unveiling of the Jordan XXX. Although the shoe isn’t much in the way of street style looks, that’s not what it was made for. It’s designed to be a premium performance shoe, and from the news we’ve heard about it, it appears to be just that. Only time will tell if it’ll be a classic, but it is certainly one of the best shoes on the market. Last year’s XXIX was one of the best performance basketball shoes ever (if you think otherwise, smack yourself), and the XXX should be able to carry on the torch. read more

Nostalgia is a funny thing. Everyone has something from their past that makes them think about how things used to be, and whatever may trigger that is different for everyone. For some, it’s what used to be on TV. For some, it’s how professional and college sports used to be. For some, it’s a strange fast food item like the McRib. For me (if you’re wondering) it was life as a kid before technology took everything over. Back in the day, we used to go get on our bikes and ride around looking for a pickup basketball game to play. It’s a drought. January is a rough month in general. The holidays are over. All the good cheer and “let’s tackle this new year” attitude tends to wear off when you actually get a week or two into the new year and realize it’s cold and miserable.

This Saturday, the “Triple Black” Yeezy 750 Boost will be hitting retailers, and the pandemonium that swirls around every Yeezy release is in full effect. 5. Nike Air Trainer Cruz “Wolf Grey”-Saturday, $140

Although the KicksOneTwo staff wasn’t sold on the Air Trainer Cruz right off the bat (there was even an article expressing our initial dislike for it), but now that we’ve had a chance to check it out in person, we’ve done a complete 180. The “Haystack” pair was a staff favorite, and Nike has come correct again with the “Wolf Grey” colorway. The simple grey upper with hits of red work nicely with the speckled black midsole and white outsole, and the premium leather liner tops it all off. read more
