We’re back! The long-awaited return of the Community Opinion is here. For the first piece, we asked Twin City sneakerheads for their thoughts on the KD VII “Global Game”. This time around, we’re doing something a little different. All the sneakerheads in this piece were asked one (not so) simple question: If you could only wear three shoe models for the rest of your life, what would they be?
Opinions varied, from Nikes to Vans to Red Wing boots. One thing is for sure though, there’s a wide variety of tastes in our sneaker community. As before, you can hit the links to check out anyone’s Twitter or Instagram, and any sneaker/sneaker related business affiliation they have will be listed as well. A final note, the shoes listed are not listed in any order, just three favorites. Without any further ado, let’s get to it!
You’ve most likely heard the news. Earlier this week, three of Nike‘s top designers left for their biggest rival: the brand with three stripes, (irony?) Adidas. What does this mean for the sneaker industry as a whole? Will the balance of power shift in Adidas’s direction? There’s a lot of questions to be answered.
A quick background on the three power players: First, there’s Marc Dolce. His specialty is modernizing popular retro models, as evidenced by his work on the Lunar Force 1’s. He’s also worked on signature basketball models for various Nike athletes, and football (of the American variety) gear.
If you watch basketball, or even if you don’t, you probably know who Ron Artest is. The former Buls, Pacers, Kings, Rockets, and Knicks swingman and 2004 defensive player of the year now goes by Metta World Peace, and is playing basketball professionally in China.
What does this have to do with sneakers, you might ask? A few days ago, Artest revealed the sneakers that he’d be wearing this upcoming season. See for yourself below.
Look familiar? The bear head on the tongue and the arms sticking out from the upper are very similar to Jeremy Scott’s JS Bear series of sneakers. Artest (sidenote: his legal name is Metta World Peace, but we here at KicksOneTwo still refer to him as Ron Artest) has recently started referring to himself as “Panda Friend”, and now apparently insists on his kicks reflecting his new self-imposed nickname.

Let me start by saying this is an opinion piece. You might not agree with what I’m going to say here, and that’s fine. However, I’m not too thrilled with what I’m writing about here, and I don’t think the average Twin Cities sneakerhead will be either.
As you probally already know, the Philadelphia-based chain sneaker store Ruvilla (most people just call them Villa for short) is starting to make their way into Minnesota. They’ve got a shop open in Brooklyn Park, and are working on shops in the Mall of America and North Minneapolis as well. It’s rumored that they are looking to open two more shops as well, although the locations of those shops are uncertain.
