The “Fight” At Sneakercon

It’s been a few days now, but chances are if you casually surf though the sneaker inter webs, you’re still greatly enjoying the footage of the fight (if you can even call it that) that occurred at SneakerCon NYC. In the event you haven’t seen it yet, it’s right here for your viewing pleasure.

Absolutely hilarious, right? Watching two scrawny kids halfheartedly grapple while the crowd oohs and ash like a MMA fight is going on is comedy gold. The little extra push at the end of the video is chuckle-worthy as well.

The whole thing is quite ridiculous. Why would anyone want to fight at a sneaker convention? Is anything sneaker-related really worth scuffling over? I can only imagine it was one of two things:

1. “No bro, those aren’t 9.5/10, they’re 9/10!” “You calling me a liar man? I’ve been doing this!”

2. “I’ve got more heat than you” “Bet you don’t” “Bet I do!”

Even though the video is hilarious, it represents something that’s wrong with the culture as a whole. Sneakers are supposed to be fun. The community is usually a tight-knit one (with various subgroups), and as a whole, it’s usually peaceful. Although nothing serious occurred in the video, it’s not a good look for the culture. People who might not know as much about the game might start making dumb assumptions based on a video like this, which is a problem in and of itself.

So please: Keep the peace. There’s no need to shove one another and roll around on the ground like an idiot over something sneaker related. It’s a hobby. It’s supposed to be fun. Let it be fun. Don’t get riled up over dumb stuff. Keep it cool and be mature.

And in the event you do have to fight (even though we don’t advocate it)…. you might as well actually fight.┬áDon’t flop around on the ground like a fish out of water.
