We’re sneaker guys. It’s in our blood. It’s what we do. There’s no part of an outfit that we love more than a crispy pair of kicks. We dress from the feet up each and every day, and we’re damn proud of it.
The only issue with this is that sometimes we love our kicks a little bit too much, and the rest of our outfit gets neglected. There are far too many sneakerheads that rock fire pairs with terrible outfits on a daily basis, and I’d like to help change that, seeing as I haven’t had a shitty fit in years (yeah, that was cocky, but anyone who knows me will tell you it’s true).
There’s no excuse for throwing up bricks on your fits just because you have some expensive shoes on. To prevent you from doing this, I’ve whipped up a simple list of style do’s and dont’s. For the sake of being positive, let’s start with the do’s.
Do’s
-Make Sure Your Pants Fit Right
We’re starting off with the simplest tip here: get some pants that fit your body type. There’s no need to be drowning in baggy, boot-cut dad jeans (known as NT Denim to some). Not only do they look horribly tacky, they’ll swallow up a vast percentage of your shoe so you can’t show it off as much. You don’t have to wear skinny jeans, but get a nice, slim or straight cut. A pair of pants like the Levi’s 514 is a great starting point.
-Wear A Crispy Pair Of Socks
Another thing that sneakerheads often neglect are their socks. You don’t want to be wearing a dirty old pair of white or black socks with your fly new kicks…it flat out looks trashy. Invest in a nice patterned sock from Stance or Huf. Your feet will thank you, and you’ll look fresher too. What’s not to love?
-Invest In High-Quality Basics
I’m not saying that you have to become a fashionista overnight, but I am saying that you should (god forbid) skip a release every once in a while to make sure your gear is alright. You don’t need to go crazy, but investing in some high-quality wardrobe staples like some nice plain-colored tees, a good black hoodie, and a go-to hat is a good idea. You can literally recycle variations of the same fit over and over again as long as you have some well-made garments and some self-confidence.
-Dont’s
-Always Get The Matching Shirt For Your Kicks
This isn’t 2002, and it’s not dope at all to match your shirt exactly to your kicks. People that do this have been keeping corny t-shirt brands that crank out mediocre to poor designs with colorways to match the latest kicks in business for years. Just stop. You don’t want to look like a cast-off from the St. Lunatics, do you? If you do, there’s not much I can do to help you. *kanye shrug*
-Wear Jorts
Good lord, is this really something that needs to be said? Apparently it is, as sneakerheads rocking jorts is an all too common occurrence. Don’t ever wear jorts. There’s nothing wrong with some cut-off denim shorts, but if you’re still rocking the baggy-ass Southpole and Phat Farm joints that look like jean capris, please deposit them in the nearest garbage can. You’re killing us.
-Duck Walk
This is a tough one for me, as I was a chronic duck-walker at one point in time. Then I discovered Sneaker Shields, and the game was changed. You can keep your kicks crease-free without duck walking, or you can just say “fuck it” and rock your kicks. See that baddie across the street? She won’t notice the crease on your kicks, but she will notice if you’re shuffling around looking like a damn fool. Get some Sneaker Shields, or walk like a normal person.
Boom. You now have everything you need to step your game up. Stay fresh, and avoid bricks at all costs. And keep rocking your heat! I know there’s nothing like putting that crispy pair on.
