Shoe collecting isn’t a cheap hobby. Even if you’re not fully invested into it, it’s easy to spend hundreds of dollars a month copping new releases and paying resell prices for kicks that you really want and missed out on. It’s not something that’s financially feasible for a lot of people. Thankfully, over our years in the game we’ve found that there’s a few ways you can save money here and there and collect kicks on the cheap, so we compiled the best ones for you. Don’t break the bank just yet…check out these tips first!
Peruse eBay and Grailed
With sites like eBay and Grailed, you stand a better chance of getting a decent price than ever before. Sure, you’ll find a lot of overpriced kicks, but if you dig around frequently enough, trying different search terms, browsing through multiple pages, and making enough offers, you’ll be able to grab the kicks you wanted without breaking your piggy bank.
Follow The Right Twitter Accounts
Pages on Twitter aren’t always news and restocks. Accounts like Sneaker Shouts and Sneaker Posts will occasionally alert you to killer deals, so make sure to follow them and keep your notifications turned on so you don’t miss out.
Grab Used Kicks
Sure, we understand the allure of a new pair. We get that the feeling of breaking out some kicks for the first time is special, but with resell prices the way they are, you can’t always do that. If you can’t find a pair you love DS for a good price, look at some used pairs. Pro tip: most sneakerheads take good care of their shoes, so even if they’ve been worn a few times they shouldn’t be too bad…and cleaning kicks is pretty easy too.
Get The Next Best Thing
Sometimes you just flat-out can’t get the shoe you want. If that’s the case, grab something similar! You can usually find a shoe with a similar color scheme or silhouette to the one you wanted, and that just might help fill the void a little bit.
Trade Up
Trading up is a great way to save a few bucks. Got your eye on a rare shoe? If you can find the right type of sneakerhead, you may be able to trade them several pairs for the one shoe that you want badly. Quality always beats quantity, and having the shoes you really think are fire is way more important than having a bunch of pairs that you don’t really love. Always trade up when you can.
