Social media is extremely important in today’s sneaker world. It breaks news, informs, and is a communication medium for sneakerheads all over the world. From Instagram to Twitter, the sneaker world is always abuzz.
Back in the day (yes, I’m old enough to say that) before social media was what it is today though, there were fewer outlets providing news and info on sneakers. Someone who didn’t understand what our world was all about might not be able to comprehend just what was so special about kicks and why people did so much to collect them.
That’s where Just For Kicks came in. Released in 2005, it was the first real film to shed light on where the culture came from and where it was going. Viewers learned everything from why b-boys loved Pumas so much to why the Air Force I was so iconic to why Michael Jordan had so much sway over the market. It was a crash course in sneaker culture and history for anyone who was new to the scene, and a well-made homage to a beloved hobby for those who were already knee-deep in the game.
Even now, almost a decade later, it still stands out. It’s a classic piece of film as far as our culture is concerned, and you need to watch it ASAP if you haven’t seen it. You can find a DVD for a few dollars … or watch it on Netflix if you’re more the streaming type. No matter how you chose to enjoy it though, it’ll either open your eyes to a bunch of cool stuff or be a trip down memory lane.
So gather your family around and make them watch Just For Kicks this holiday season. You’ll be glad you did!
