2016 is almost over. It was a crazy year in the sneaker world, in terms of news, releases, firsts, and pretty much everything else you can think of. With Adidas still riding the wave Kanye started and Nike making some of the best product they’ve made in a while, we’re geared up for a pretty damn good 2017 as well.
But what exactly will happen next year? What trends will rise and which will fall by the wayside? Nobody can see the future … but we’d like to think we’re pretty good at guessing, so here’s 3 bold sneaker predictions for 2017.
1. Yeezys Will Still Be The Top Dog … But Not By As Much As Prior Years
People get tired of things, even great things. Kanye West’s hold on the top “cool guy” spot in the sneaker world is firm, but as more and more Yeezys drop, the resell price has begun to go down. They still sell out instantly and can be easily whipped for double their retail price, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they’re not god-status the way they were in 2015-16 by the end of the year.
2. Air Force 1’s Will Be A Favorite Among The Ladies
The Rihanna x Puma Creepers were undoubtedly the favorite shoe among female sneakerheads this year, but the Air Force 1 (especially the “Flax” colorway) really seemed to find a place too. We’ve got a feeling that more and more ladies will be rocking the AF1’s in 2017 … and maybe we’ll even see some women’s-specific collabs.
3. High-Fashion Brand Collabs Will Oversaturate The Market
Collars are a dime a dozen these days. Sure, there are still a lot of great pairs that come out of 2 brands mashing minds, but let’s be honest … they’re not as special as they used to be. The recent wave of sneaker collabs with high-end fashion brands has been great, but we have a feeling that the market will be oversaturated in 2017, and the high-end collab wave will lose its luster about halfway through the year.
