Kanye West’s greatest test is about to commence.
Just kidding. The release of the Yeezy PowerPhase won’t be his “greatest test”, we just wanted to say it because it rhymed.
However, the PowerPhase will be a test of sorts: it’ll be a test of how real the Yeezy hype actually is. These aren’t a futuristic, fashion-forwards sneaker like the 350’s and 750’s, nor are they a chunky, military-inspired boot like the 950’s or any of the Season 3 footwear. They’re a plain white leather sneaker that bear a striking resemblance to the Reebok Workout … a shoe that was loved by middle-age aerobics participants the world around when they released.
So can the Kanye effect make these simple, straightforwards white adidas cool? We wouldn’t put it past him. For starters, they retail for a mere $120, which is peanuts compared to the price of his other releases. Secondly, although they aren’t flashy, they are clean … and everyone needs a pair of clean white sneakers for the summer.
And finally, it is Kanye after all. He’s been out of the headlines for a little while, but let’s not forget this is the man who can make literally anything cool. Hate all you want, but his track record has proven time and time again that he’s got the magic touch, and the public religiously studies his taste.
These will be a hit this summer … and the resell price will probably be off the charts too just off the strength of the hype. Yeezy season approaches us once again.
