There’s been a wave of 80’s-90’s nostalgia taking over the sneaker and streetwear community. What’s old is new again … and anything that looks vintage is hot.
One thing that’s enjoyed a revival is the WWE. Wrestling is more popular than it’s been in a long time , and it appears that the WWE is ready to cash in on the footwear market.
Peter Rosenberg, Hot 97’s famous radio jock took to his Instagram earlier today to announce that he’d be “curating” an epic collaborative effort with the WWE, Puma, and Foot Locker coming together for vintage-inspired sneaker (and most likely apparel) releases.
We’ve gotta say, this is pretty cool. Sure, the “vintage” trend is nearing overexposure and will very likely be dead by the end of the year, but it’s as hot right now as it’ll ever be, and the WWE is making a great move cashing in while the trend is hot. Plus, there’s never really been a wide release of pro wrestling-inspired shoes before, and most of the kids who grew up loving wrestling are adults with money to spend now … so you already know that they’ll be cashing out.
Rosenberg promised a “major announcement” next week, so we’ll have to wait and see exactly what’ll be going on, but we’ve got to say that the announcement’s got us quite excited. Really, who doesn’t love wrestling?
