My favorite basketball player of all time was elected to the Hall Of Fame last week.

Allen Ezail Iverson, legendary for his heart, scoring ability, and deadly crossover has taken his rightful place in a shrine reserved for the greatest to ever play the game.

Anyone who’s seen him play knows: there was nothing like him before, and there will be nothing like him again. He was always on the attack, moving 100 miles an hour even when he was clearly exhausted. He had the heart of a lion, going right at men who were bigger and stronger than he was. If he couldn’t go through them, he’d go around them. He had an uncanny ability to create space and get to the hoop. read more

Adidas and Kanye West have done it yet again.

On the eve of the 2016-17 NFL season, some of Adidas’s top football players were blessed with Yeezy cleats that sent the Internet and the sneaker world into a frenzy. Von Miller was the first to break the news, as he was blessed with a 750 cleat. DeAndre Hopkins and Adrian Peterson were also gifted with cleats, however theirs were of the low-top 350 variety.

This is a big deal. A very big deal. It’s much more than just some cool Yeezy cleats. This is Adidas’s first step towards integrating Kanye’s designs into their performance products … and they look absolutely great.  The 750 is perfect for a strong defensive player like Miller, and the 350 looks ideal for the speed of Hopkins and the quickness of Adrian Peterson. read more

We’re not big fans of the Roshe here at KicksOneTwo. Sure, it was cool when it first came out, but it became totally and completely washed faster than any other shoe ever. The Roshe is to sneakers what Been Trill is to clothing (you know that’s a true statement). We drag it on Twitter. We joke about it in person. We  even use it for batting practice.

So you already know we were licking our chops at the prospect of new comedic material when the Roshe Two was announced … and Nike didn’t let us down one bit. It’s been almost 3 years. 3 long years since the last time my favorite Jordan ever dropped. I went through withdraws. I took my pair out to rock, then put it back in the box because I didn’t want to mess it up, then I took it out again and put it on my feet.

I wore it in the winter. The summer. The spring. The fall. I wore it at any and every given opportunity, yet I somehow still managed to keep my favorite shoes ever crispy.

Sneaker design is dope. The thought, time, and creativity that goes into designing silhouettes, choosing  materials, and nailing the little details that make a shoe unique is a special skill, and one that not many people possess.

Most of us can just imagine and dream about creating our own sneaker silhouette (no, making a custom colorway on NikeID doesn’t count), but thanks to Hypebeast, at least we can get a chance to see the process happen from the ground up.

John Tang, founder and creative director of FRONTEER (and former creative director of K-Swiss) breaks down the process of creating a shoe in the video, from the initial creative process of finding inspiration in something (rock climbing shoes in his case), to sketching out the sneaker’s design (freehand to ink to markers), to working on the tech pack (which is what the factory needs to make sure the proportions of the shoe are proper and all the correct materials are used). The Olympics: A time of awe-inspiring athletic feats. A time of great personal and national triumphs. A time of excellent marketing and fire sneaker releases.

You know that every time the Olympics come around, you’re going to get absolutely slammed with marketing. TV ads. “Official ____ Of The USA Olympic Team” packaging. Shoes inspired by the athletes, the logos, the medals, and anything else that’s marketable at the Olympic Games.

There’s a lot of dope stuff from many a brand this year, like Nike’s Olympic pack (which we wrote about a few weeks back), but Adidas will be taking home the gold medal for “best Olympic sneakers” this year when it’s all said and done. read more

Nike Basketball used to be the dopest thing out.

The colorways were creative and inspiring (Lebron South Beach, KD Aunt Pearl, Kobe Mambacurial to name a few). Everything except the most widely available general releases would blow off the shelves, and sneakerheads around the world had piles and piles of orange Nike boxes stacked up high in their rooms. Yeah, Nike Basketball was the best.

But around the release of the LeBron 11 and the KD 7, a strange thing started happening: Nike Basketball releases (even the hyped ones) were sitting. Resell prices plummeted. You could get grails like Big Bang Lebron 9’s for a fraction of what they used to cost, as most of their owners were frantically trying to unload them. read more

That was my first thought when I saw the Curry 2 Luxe, Under Armour’s first real attempt at a lifestyle shoe design. I’ll admit: at first, it makes sense. The most popular player in the NBA, fresh off another MVP season (yeah, he lost in the finals, but his star is still shining brightly … ask any kid on your block) gets a lifestyle shoe that his fans can rock off the court. I’m pretty happy with my shoe collection.

One of our favorite things about shoes are the cushioning systems used. From Max Air to Lunarlon, to Zoom Air, to DMX, to Bounce, we love it all. We’d be hard-pressed to pick a favorite, but if you made us choose … we’d have to go with Boost.

That’s right, Boost. Adidas’s revolutionary cushioning system, designed in partnership with NASA. It’s billed as a “revolutionary cushioning system that returns more energy per foot strike than traditional EVA foam”. It’s also more resilient than standard foam, and will not lose its cushioning after multiple wears. Adidas promises that no matter the temperature or conditions, Boost will be the softest and most comfortable ride available, and we’d have to agree with that statement. read more

Every year for the last 31 years, the sneaker world has stopped when Jordan Brand unveils the newest model in their signature line. From the 1’s to the 14’s to the Jordan 2009’s (remember those?), it’s big news every time a new signature Jordan releases … and it’s about to be that time again as the Jordan 31 is dropping September 3rd.

Heavily inspired by the shoe that started it all, the OG Bred (or Banned) Jordan I, the Jordan 31 does a great job of fusing old and new technology together for a look that’s vintage yet sleek. The off-court wearability of the past few models has been questionable at best (even though they were terrific performance shoes), so it’s nice to see a signature model that’ll look just as good on the streets as it does on the court. It’s the first model ever to feature the Jumpman, Wings, and Swoosh logos all together, and the large “Banned” hit on the outsole is a very nice touch as well. read more

There’s nothing quite like a classic sneaker that ages like fine wine. The longer you have it, the doper it gets. Maybe you’ve had it for 5 years. Maybe 10. Maybe 20. But every time you wear it, it just seems to get better and better. That’s how you know a shoe is a classic.

Connor’s fall from grace was just as fast as his meteoric rise to fame, as he was accused of rape by multiple women who had strikingly similar stories, and then punched out by A$AP Bari (his former mentor) after attempting to punch Theophilus London, another mentor, in Paris. read more

Indie hero Harmony Korine, the director of Spring Breakers (which Gucci played a major role in) directed an ad in which Gucci, decked out in a Supreme box logo tee, plays the piano, sings, talks about Supreme, and shares his shopping habits. We’re spending a lot of time talking about legendary athletes this week. Yesterday’s article was an ode to Tim Duncan, who announced his retirement in the most Tim Duncan way possible … quietly and without fanfare. Today we’re discussing an athlete from a different sport, but one who’s just as legendary as Timmy D: Derek Jeter.

The long-time Yankee captain and shortstop (who retired in 2014) has a long-standing relationship with Jordan Brand, who provided him with cleats, turf shoes, batting gloves and more during his playing career. During his farewell tour in 2014, Jordan Brand heavily promoted their “RE2PECT” campaign to pay homage to him, and just because his playing days are over doesn’t mean he’s done working with them. Yesterday it was announced that Jeter and Jordan Brand were coming together for a “RE2PECT” line of training footwear and apparel set to launch in the spring of 2017. He was also named the “captain” of Jordan Brand’s athletes, which shows you how much respect (or RE2PECT if you want to use marketing terms) the brand has for him. read more

The best power forward to ever play the game of basketball retired yesterday.

Tim Duncan called it quits after 19 seasons (all with the San Antonio Spurs of course), 5 NBA Championships, 2 MVP’s, 3 Finals MVP’s, 15 All-Star selections, 10 All-NBA First Team selections, and a whole host of other honors.

In true Tim Duncan fashion, he announced his retirement quietly and without fanfare. He didn’t need to have a big, over-dramatic final season filled with sappy tributes and everyone waxing poetic about how great he was every time the Spurs were on TV. He didn’t need a farewell tour. He wanted to retire quietly, on his own terms, and he did just that. read more

So obviously when I found out that the original Hyperdunks would be re-releasing, I was extremely excited. Take the newest technology from a big company, be it Flyknit, Boost, or Charged Foam, slap it into a well-designed shoe, and put a famous player like LeBron James or Steph Curry’s name on it, and you can pretty much charge whatever you want for it.

We’re waxing poetic and being nostalgic today. We’re looking back on the past fondly. We’re talking about our favorite Nike Basketball shoe ever (yeah, that’s right!) today. We’re talking about the Nike Hyperdunk.

Introduced at the 2008 Olympics, and proudly sported by Kobe Bryant, the Hyperdunk was originally available in a white/red/blue (for the Olympics of course) and an all-black colorway…and it was a game-changer. One of the earliest shoes to use Flywire, the original Hyperdunk was incredibly light, surprisingly supportive, and excellently cushioned. It was ahead of its time from a performance standpoint…and still stacks up against many of today’s basketball shoes. But like any great shoe, it was more than just the performance that made it so legendary. read more

Supreme vs. Bape. A clash of titans. The longest-running debate in streetwear. A question with no true answer (if you’re wondering though, we’re partial to Supreme). The two biggest brands in our culture each have their devoted fans who swear nothing’s better…and recently, one of those fans has been making some serious waves on the Internet.

The Adidas Ultra Boost: one of the most comfortable shoes you’ll ever wear. The plush Boost cushioning and the foot-hugging Primeknit upper combine to make you feel like you’re walking on clouds. Nothing else compares.

And they’re not just comfy. They’re dope too. Cosigned by everyone from Kanye West to Lawrence Schlossman (much respect to the Four Pins and Grailed gawd), the Ultra Boost looks great both with denim and shorts. It’s been a little over a month since the last edition of Sunday Sneaker Ramblings, so it’s high time I checked back in with ya’ll and shared my unfiltered thoughts on what went down in sneakers the past week. Both Adidas and Jordan had things booming (and Reebok made some noise too), so without further ado…we’ll jump right into it. Let’s begin the 11th edition of Sunday Sneaker Ramblings.

Adidas continued their roll with the release of the AlphaBOUNCE, which flew off of shelves, both IRL and on the web as soon as it released on Wednesday…and Kanye hasn’t even worn it yet. Adidas’s roll seems to be going just as strong as ever. They’re hot right now, and they’re giving the people what they want while continuing to innovate. Props to them. Personally, I really like these. We’ll see what the other color ways are all about, but these have an almost fish-like look to them (do they look like scales to anyone else?), which is supremely wavy. read more

Steph Curry. The NBA’s man of the moment. The back-to-back MVP and soon to be back-to-back NBA Finals champion (come on now, we all know the Cavs aren’t coming back, as much as we may want them to) is by far the most popular basketball player in the world right now. He’s so popular that he even managed to make Under Armor relevant in the basketball world with his signature shoes, the Curry 1 and 2.  But even the great Steph Curry is not immune to the occasional brick, and he teamed with Under Armor to toss a resounding one recently, with the release of the “Chef Curry” Curry 2 Lows, pictured above. read more
