What I’ve Learned From KicksOneTwo

I’d like to start today’s article off by clarifying its tone and subject matter: This is 100% a personal piece. It’s not an op-ed. It’s not a Top 10 list. It’s not an informative history lesson. It’s not a Starting Five (even though we’ve had several great ones grace these pages in the past few weeks).

This is just me, Ross, looking back over the last four years of my site, KicksOneTwo. Now is a time for recollection and reflection, as I relocated to New York this past week to work as a junior editor for SneakerNews, a brand that I’ve loved since I was a Jordan-obsessed 9th grader working at Champs Sports who always paired his kicks with oversized tees and baggy basketball shorts (I really thought I was killing it too). read more

KicksOneTwo Founder and Editor, Ross Dwyer: About Me

Hey, I’m thrilled that you’re here. I’m looking forward to bringing you my thoughts and opinions on the culture that I love so much and providing quality content. A little background on me: I’m 26 years old, and have been collecting sneakers/obsessing over streetwear for over a decade (since I was 15 to be specific). If I could only wear three shoes for the rest of my life they would be:

  • Air Jordan I’s

  • Vans Sk8-Hi’s

  • Adidas Gazelles

I’ve enjoyed basketball since I was young, and always took note of what my favorite players (Allen Iverson, and Kevin Garnett, to name two) were wearing. When I started working in a shoe store as a 15 year old, it was a wrap. I started buying every sneaker I’d ever wanted since I finally had a little bit of pocket money to spare, and my passion/obsession (depends on who you ask) only grew from there.

I’ve always enjoyed expressing myself through my words, and always knew that I could do better than the mediocre to (let’s be completely honest here…) poor writing and grammar that I see on some of the bigger sneaker sites. Although I’d mulled around the idea of starting my own site to broadcast my take on our culture for quite a while, I didn’t get the push I needed to go through with it until Spring 2014. read more

KicksOneTwo Creative Director Jahmade John: About Me

My name is Jahmade John, I’m 20 years old, and I really, really like sneakers. There’s no way I can give you guys the whole run down of my 6 years doing this thing that I love in a quick “about me” piece but Ill give you guys a little background information about my obsession that started back in 2008.

The first sneaker I ever bought with my own money was the Nike SB “Tie Dye”. I’ve got a lot of respect for a lot of different designers, so I can’t give you guys a favorite off the top of my head, but I can list  a top 3 (in no particular order) read more

KicksOneTwo Guest Writer Sean Crawford: About Me

Before you invest too much time reading yet another blog, you should know who is behind K-1-2…

Other than working at a locally owned footwear and apparel boutique, my involvement in “the game” or whatever you call it is strictly as an admirer. Theoretically I (get paid to) sell thousands of dollars of clothes and shoes a week, and I sometimes feel like I buy an equal amount…but working in a local sneaker shop also pays me millions a week in peoples’ 2 cents on a subject, so I might as well invest it in this blog. read more

KicksOneTwo Writer Emil (Bobby) Cienik: About Me

What’s up KicksOneTwo!? First and foremost, I am extremely excited to become a part of the KicksOneTwo family and cook up some dope articles for your reading pleasure. I’ve known Ross for a little while now and he’s been nothing but good to me so I owe him a huge thank you for letting me be a part of this. My name is Emil Cienik, (most people call me Bobby), I’m 17 years old, and am a recent graduate of Anoka High School.

My interest in shoes started as a child in elementary school. Every August before the new school year started, I’d always want my parents to buy me the most expensive shoes with the hope that everyone in class would be jealous. Funny to think about even as an 8 year old, I wanted to stunt on kids. I can’t help but laugh now as I remember my dad telling me that $100 for a pair of shoes was an outrageous price. It was even funnier when I got older and first told him that I could get hundreds of dollars for certain pairs of shoes. read more
