Starting Five: Yoseph Tesfay

It’s been nothing short of a triumphant return for our cult-favorite Starting Five segment this past few weeks. Starting Five: OG Rob

Starting Five season is back in full swing.

After making a triumphant return following an extended hiatus earlier this week with the second installment of Studiiyo23’s own Dallas’s current rotation, the next Starting Five up is courtesy of Piff co-owner/operations manager OG Rob, who’s currently rocking  everything from classic SB’s to under-the radar Nike Sportswear silhouettes and hyped-up Air Max.

Miss the last installment and not sure exactly how Starting Five works? Here’s a quick crash course: a knowledgable Minneapolis sneakerhead shows off the five pairs that they’re currently rocking and shares exactly why they like each pair. You get an opportunity not only to see what your peers are wearing … but to see exactly why they like what they like, as they share insights on each pair in their rotation. read more

The Faces Of 2017: A Film Photography Retrospective

It was a wild year, wasn’t it?

2017 is almost in the books, and as I reminisce on a year gone by, I feel that I owe a debt of gratitude to all the people that made it so memorable. I shared great experiences with friends and loved ones both old and new, and created memories that I’ll keep with me forever.

And thankfully I was able to document those memories. Over the course of the year I shot film photos of the people around me, starting with a small Pentax IQ Zoom 120Mi, before upgrading to a Yashica Micro Elite Zoom 120, and finally a Yashica T2 (my favorite film camera I’ve owned). read more

TOMORROW: Soundset At The State Fairgrounds

It’s going down tomorrow.

One of the biggest and best hip-hop festivals in the world is happening in our city, as it does on the Sunday before Memorial Day every year.

Yes, Soundset is here again. And even with recent cancellations (Mac Miller just backed out yesterday and Kevin Gates is in jail), it’s still arguably the best lineup to date. Gucci Mane. Travis Scott. Pusha T. TI. The St4ndard. The list goes on and on and on.

And it’s more than just the music too. There’s a car show. Live painting. Booths (Minneapolis’s finest vendors will be in the house). Head over to the Fifth Element website, grab some tickets (if there are any left when this goes live  … they might just sell out), and get ready to head over to the State Fairgrounds tomorrow. It’ll certainly be an event to remember. read more

Are Virgil Abloh’s Nike Collabs Getting Excessive?

Virgil Abloh. The man behind famous street fashion/high end brand OFF-WHITE (it’s kind of a hybrid, but the prices are definitely high-end) is a designer in the truest sense of the word, willing to lay his hands on anything and everything in the pursuit of making something unique and dope.

What’s he been designing recently? Nike sneakers, it seems.

Image after image of Virgil’s designs have hit the internet, from Jordan I’s to Jordan III’s to Air Force I’s and Air Max, there’s a sneaker for every type of sneakerhead. Virgil seems locked in, and it seems that Nike is willing to collaborate with him on an extremely major level. read more

Forget Yeezys: 4 Heat Pairs Of VaporMax Drop Today

Over the past few weeks, we’ve expressed our growing disdain for the Yeezy 350 Boost here at KicksOneTwo.

Sure, we’ll still report on the releases and cover you with any news and updates because, well … let’s face it: the 350 Boost is still the most popular shoe on the market today, and we can’t deny that the white joints coming out this weekend are extremely clean.

However, we’re tired of all the hype, and frankly are completely ready to move on to the net thing … and we can’t help but believe some (if not most) of you are too. Well, go ahead and forget all about the Yeezys … four great VaporMax are dropping today. read more

Russell Westbrook’s Jordan 0.2: Not That Bad

Here at KicksOneTwo, we’re quick to clown on a lot of Jordan Brand’s signature sneakers. They seem completely unable to capture the magic of the retros, and put out forgettable performance shoes year after year. They work great on the court … but they don’t work great in the streets, so they can’t cross over and become true classics.

So when we heard that Russell Westbrook’s first signature Jordan sneaker would be a casual shoe, we were very interested. Russell is one of the better-dressed NBA players, so we wanted to see if Jordan Brand could do him justice with his first release. Long story short, they didn’t. read more

Kevin Plank and Donald Trump: Simply Awful

Kevin Plank and Under Armour’s rise to fame and fortune is a fascinating story. A great idea, a driven founder who had next to nothing to his name when he started the company, and innovative products that have pushed the limits of athletic footwear and apparel. Under Armour is a powerhouse company, and even though we don’t much care for their designs (you can’t sit here and tell us all three Currys aren’t terrible), we generally held them in high regard.

Until now. Kevin Plank, Under Armour CEO stated in an interview with CNBC yesterday that Donald Trump, our current orange-colored disaster of a president was “highly passionate” and a “real asset for US companies”. read more
