It’s story time.
Yes, I’m taking it back to preschool and telling a story. It involves a Travel Channel show host and a dope brand out of New York City. It’s fairly short, and pretty funny, and without further ado, I’ll get right to it.
As many readers of this site know, I’m a manager at a sneaker store. Which sneaker store I’m a manager of is not important. If you know me personally, you already know which store it is, and if you don’t you’ll probably run across me sooner or later.
Earlier this week, Andrew Zimmern stopped through my store. I don’t watch a ton of TV, but I recognized him right away (as most Minnesotans would), and gave him a nod of acknowledgement.
I’ve never been one to act any different when someone “famous” is in the store, as I don’t usually care. I try my best to treat everyone the same way regardless of their social status or the size of their wallet, so after greeting him, I let him shop undisturbed, as I’m sure he wanted.
One of the other workers helped him and his family with their shoes, and as he came up to the counter to check out, he mentioned that he liked Pumas, but couldn’t find too many places locally that carried the retro styles he was into. He mentioned that he liked some of the limited-edition shoes that they did, and when he said that, I had to speak up.
“Have you ever heard of Kith?” I asked. He hadn’t, and asked me about the brand. I filled him in on all the crazy collaborations they’ve done with Puma, from the Sakura Project R698’s to the Coat Of Arms Disc Blazes. He seemed very interested, and even took the name of the brand down.
It was pretty enjoyable to put someone who’s well-known on game to something that I enjoy. Who knows if he’ll wind up buying any Kith, but if you see Disc Blazes, Bleecker sweatshirts, or a Thompson logo crew, just know it was yours truly that put him on game.
