5 Shoes I Regret Buying

When you step into a shoe store or check out a website selling kicks, you’ve got a lot of choices. With all the brands, styles, and colorways available, it can be a little bit overwhelming. Even when you’re an experienced sneaker head, you’ll occasionally be a little too hasty and pull the trigger on a pair that you really wish you hadn’t. I won’t lie, I’ve done it before. A few times to be completely honest.

So I got to thinking: what shoes do I regret buying the most? A few pairs came to mind. Either I was too hasty, got caught up in the hype, or just needed something new and wound up with a pair I didn’t really want. I’m not saying that I don’t like any of these shoes (because I do)…I just find myself wishing that I hadn’t bought them. Without further ado, here’s 5 shoes I regret buying.

Honorable Mention: Jordan Future “Volt”

I know, I know. I said 5 pairs, but I had to throw the “Volt” Futures in as an honorable mention. Don’t get me wrong: I think the Future is a great shoe, and was arguably the best new sneaker of 2014, but I got a little too caught up when I copped the volt pair. It’s really bright which is great, but that makes it pretty hard to wear with a lot of things. Plus the woven upper gets dirty really easily, and because it’s such a bright color it’s a big pain in the ass to clean.

5. Penny V “Camo”

I’m still not 100% sure what lead me to cop these. I saw them on the shelves, thought they were pretty dope and had a little money in my pocket so I dropped $165 on them even though I didn’t love them. The true definition of a “oh, what the hell” sneaker purchase. I hardly wear them (just for a few grocery store runs), and was peeved when I saw them at outlets for $70-$80. I should have just waited…or not copped them at all.

4. Nike Lunar Flyknit Chukka “Green/Orange”

I badly wanted a pair of Lunar Flyknit Chukkas when they dropped, and this orange/green colorway was the only one I could find in my size so I went ahead and pulled the trigger. They’re comfy, and look dope on feet, but the color combo is incredibly difficult to work into a decent outfit. The green is dope but the orange hits (especially the laces) make it borderline impossible to coordinate these with any decent fits. Plus, they were $170. That’s steep for a shoe that you don’t really wear. Should have left them chilling on the shelf.

3. Nike SB Dunk High “Send Help 2”

Todd Bratrud makes some great shoes. The Send Help 1’s, Skunks, and Brainwrecks were all really dope, and when I saw these sitting on the shelf at the Nike store, I grabbed a pair. What I didn’t realize when I copped is that I’m not really a huge SB fan (SB’s are dope, but they’re not for me), and this color was a hard wear. These are available for below retail now, and I wish I held off on them.

2. Clarks x Atmos Tawyer Mid

What was I thinking when I bought these? To this day, I still couldn’t tell you. I do recall thinking they looked like something Theophilus London would wear for some reason, but that doesn’t explain it It’s not even the style of shoe I like to rock (it’s a weird chukka/boot sort of hybrid if I had to label it), and the leopard print upper is just kind of strange. They’re an interesting shoe to have in the collection, and maybe I’ll find a use for them some day, but I’ve had them for almost two years and worn them maybe twice. Nope, not worth it.

1. Adidas JS Bear “Flower Power”

Here we are at the #1 spot..and it had to go to the “Flower Power” JS Bears. I got them for $200, but I essentially spent $200 for some laughs, as I wore them just for shits and giggles…and to get noticed. Call me vain if you want, I don’t care. Sure, it made a few people smile and set me up to make a few good jokes, but now I’m sitting on a $200 pair of shoes with fucking teddy bears and flowers on them that I’ll probably never wear (or take out of the box) again. I’m not the type of guy that buys shoes just to have them sitting around aimlessly, so I’m going to go ahead and chalk these up as a big L.
