Adidas Ultra Boost: Caged Or Uncaged?

The Adidas Ultra Boost: one of the most comfortable shoes you’ll ever wear. The plush Boost cushioning and the foot-hugging Primeknit upper combine to make you feel like you’re walking on clouds. Nothing else compares.

And they’re not just comfy. They’re dope too. Cosigned by everyone from Kanye West to Lawrence Schlossman (much respect to the Four Pins and Grailed gawd), the Ultra Boost looks great both with denim and shorts. But that’s not all: it can even be customized. That’s right, forwards-thinking sneaker heads have started “uncaging”, or cutting the plastic 3 stripes design off of the shoes.

Looks pretty dope, right? The shoe already possesses a minimalistic look, and with the removal of the three stripes it’s more socklike than ever…and still just as comfy. Of course Adidas took notice of sneaker heads doing this (they pay attention to what their consumers do/want like few other brands do), and came out with their own official uncaged version of the Ultra Boost

The shoe takes the minimal upper styling to a new level, while keeping the full-length Boost foam cushioning on the bottom. The stretchy collar around the ankle is reminiscent of certain Nike models like the Nike Free RN Motion Flyknit, while still retaining the plastic heel counter (gotta have some structure somewhere!). All in all, it’s a great way to make the un-caging of the Ultra Boost official and widely available.

So now the question begs to be asked: what’s better? Caged or uncaged? Although we do like the design of the uncaged pair, we’re still firm believers that caged is the way to go. Lace them super loose and show off the Three Stripes on the side. They add a classic look to a new, high-tech model…and that fusion of old and new is what we always love in a pair of kicks. We’re definitely not against grabbing an uncaged pair or two though…you just might catch us rocking them this summer.

    • I feel that it is just based on opinion. Most of my friends like the caged ultra boost better, but not because of the three stripes that resemble the adidas logo. I feel that they both look equally good in there own ways. Even though maybe the three tripes on the toe box ruins the cool adidas NMD primnit look, it still has something’s that make up for that. For instance, the collar around the ankle gives you a really tight fit, that you can rely on not to let your foot slip out of the shoe. And of course secondly would have to be the uncared design. It is a great minimalistic design and feel that no one can say it doesn’t look dope and doesn’t feel great. That’s what I think about the adidas ultra boost uncaged.
