There’s nothing quite like a classic sneaker that ages like fine wine. The longer you have it, the doper it gets. Maybe you’ve had it for 5 years. Maybe 10. Maybe 20. But every time you wear it, it just seems to get better and better. That’s how you know a shoe is a classic.
However, not every shoe can do this. Some shoes are period pieces, and are better left where they came from. The aging process can be a harsh one, and the three shoes we’re about to show you, all hot when they came out, just flat-out didn’t age well. Let’s get right to it.
1. Nike x Supreme Air Trainer 2 SB
Supreme is a staff-favorite brand here at KicksOneTwo, and we love a lot of the old SB’s too … but these Air Trainer SB mashups are flat-out not clean. Sure, they were dope at the time, but as the years have gone by, we’ve realized that trainers and SB’s don’t always work together, no matter what brand slaps a logo on them.
2. Jeremy Scott JS Bear
A shoe that was whimsical and fun a few years back is now just flat-out odd. We can’t blame you for keeping a pair or two of JS Bears in your collection for the sake of nostalgia and a few good laughs, but can you believe that people really wore these out in public and worked them into outfits? Unreal.
3. Nike Yeezy 1
We already know what you’re thinking. “A Yeezy? On a list like this? But Kanye. Kanye can do no wrong, ever”. Yeah, yeah. We know. But you’ve got to face the facts. Although the Yeezy 1 was dope, it was a period piece in a way that none of Kanye’s other shoes have been. In true 2009 fashion, it’s big, clunky, and comes in two weird colorways. Kanye’s LV collabs, the Yeezy 2’s, and anything he’s done with Adidas are all infinitely more wearable than the Yeezy 1’s. That’s a fact.
Do you agree that these shoes didn’t age well, or are you of the opinion that they’re timeless? What shoes do you think didn’t age well?
