Ask any Jordan head what their favorite XI is, and there’s a good chance that they’ll tell you it’s the Space Jam. They’re the rare shoe that manages to be clean and simple while displaying an effortless flashy style (probably because of the patent leather), and they hold a special place in many a sneakerhead’s heart.
However, there’s been some griping and grumbling from sneakerheads this year over the 2016 iteration of the Space Jams. They’re not true to the originals. They don’t look right. The price is too high. So you’ve got to ask yourself: will the Space Jams still be a hit in 2016?
Jordans aren’t the guaranteed hype machine they were a few years back (Adidas has taken their crown with the Yeezys and other releases), and some pairs will sit on shelves for weeks and even go on sale. Although the market’s not terribly favorable, we think it’s safe to say that the Space Jams will still be a hit.
It’s the holiday season after all. Kids are going to want gifts. OG sneakerheads will do what they always do, and gripe and grumble about the shoes right up until they cop them anyway. They’ll still do numbers, simply because they’re an XI, and XI’s are a holiday season tradition.
So be ready for the Jordan hype train to pick up steam again leading up to the 10th when the Space Jams release. It’ll be a crazy day, just like it is every year.
