We’ll come right out and admit it: we were pretty harsh critics of the Nike SF-AF1 when it first came out. We thought the chunky, super-high top look and earth tone colorways were a ham-handed attempt to cash in on the Yeezy boot craze, and we though that Nike saying they were inspired by military equipment was flat-out lame. We were hating so hard we even wrote an article about our general distaste for the shoe.
It’s been a few months now, and as mature, responsible adults (most of the time at least. “Don’t grow up, just glow up” is a phrase we try to live by), we can admit when we’re wrong … and we were wrong about the SF-AF1.
It’s actually a very clean shoe and looks great on feet (sometimes seeing a shoe on-feet makes all the difference). The Air Force 1 midsole is a chunky winter classic, and the super high nylon top actually looks great when it’s worn correctly (we see a lot of folks who have no idea whatsoever how to wear these shoes but that’s them, not the shoes).
Nike was in desperate need of innovation and something fresh, and they got it with the SF-AF1. It’s a very timely shoe that hit the nail right on the head. We retract our original statement. These are clean, dope, available in many colorways, and a sneaker that can find a place in any fashion enthusiast’s closet.
We’ll catch you all later though. We’re gonna go have a big piece of humble pie. Till tomorrow.
