Takashi Murakami is one of the greatest artists of our generation. His sculptures, paintings, and album covers (Kanye West’s Graduation still boasts some of the best album artwork of all time thanks to Takashi-pom) have influenced many, and the mark he’s left on the cultural landscape is nothing short of amazing.
However, with that kind of longevity it was inevitable that he did something less than great sooner or later … and that something that was less than great was a pair of shoes.
That’s not the end of the world. It’s not like he painted/sculpted a bad piece, but the Yeezys that he decided to convert into sandals? Yeah, no thanks.
Takashi took a pair of the “Cream” 350 Boost V2’s … and lopped the heel/toe off to make them into sandals. Sure, he threw on some of his signature flowers for effect … but by and large, they’re just a destroyed pair of Yeezys.
Takashi’s always got some sort of master plan, so he could have just done these to throw the interwebs into a frenzy, but that unfortunately doesn’t change the fact that they’re absolute trash. They don’t look like sandals, they just look like a totally thrashed and ripped pair of Yeezys … so what they are.
In the grand scope of his career it’s next to nothing, but we’re not gonna sit here and pretend we love these just because he’s a legend. We’ll just chalk em’ up as an L and keep it moving.
